Coral acclimation...
Proper coral acclimation is essential to the survival of any new coral entering your system, this is because the coral has experienced a significant amount of stress during its travels.
I recommend that you follow the bellow procedure immediately once your coral has arrived.
- Acclimation Procedures -
- Float the bag/pot containing the coral for 20mins, this will allow the water in the bag/pot to match the aquariums temperature.
- Place the coral in a larger container that still allows them to be submerged in the original water.
- Over the next 30mins, either using the drip method or a small cup, slowly introduce your aquarium water. Please be mindful that corals don't handle rapid changes to parameters and that the temperature of the acclimation water can drop slightly during this process.
- Dipping -
This is personal preference, we dip all our coral with reef primer and have wrasse in our systems. Despite this, it's virtually impossible to guarantee that all pests are eliminated. Therefore we think it's an important step for the long term success your reef. Please note - Dipping freshly shipped coral can go wrong if the dip is too strong or with a product not formulated for coral.
- Tank Placement -
The coral will still need a few days to adjust to your lighting and flow, therefore I suggest placing the coral somewhere low in your aquarium.
